Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Roast hazelnuts in the oven for about 10 minutes.
Allow hazelnuts to cool for about 20 minutes.
Rub the cooled hazelnuts between your hands to remove the skins, transferring them to a bowl as you go.
Add the peeled hazelnuts to a food processor and pulse until smooth.
Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, microwaving in 10-second intervals and stirring in between until completely melted.
Add canola oil to the melted chocolate to make it more pliable, then pour it into the hazelnut mixture.
Add vanilla extract and powdered sugar to the hazelnut and chocolate mixture.
Blend everything together until smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
Transfer the homemade Nutella to a mason jar for storage.
