Originating from the indigenous peoples of Central America, Tamales de Elote are a cherished dish in Salvadoran cuisine, often enjoyed during celebrations and family gatherings. These sweet corn tamales highlight the region's abundant corn harvest and showcase the community's culinary traditions. Today, they are popular not only in El Salvador but also among Latin American communities worldwide, with variations that include different fillings and toppings.

Start by removing the corn kernels from the cob using a sharp knife.
Ensure to get all the kernels off completely from the cob.
Clean the corn by rinsing it in water to remove any hair or debris.
Take the cleaned corn to a mill to grind it; if you don't have a mill, you can process it in a blender but add a little liquid.
After grinding, you will have a mixture of corn.
Add 2 tablespoons of salt, 6 tablespoons of sugar, 1 cup of requesón, 1/4 cup of cream, and 2 bars of melted margarine to the corn mixture.
Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and taste to adjust salt and sugar as desired.
Begin wrapping the tamales by placing the mixture in soaked corn husks and folding them tightly.
Place the wrapped tamales upright in a pot for steaming.
Add water to the pot until it reaches the bottom of the tamales, then cover with a cloth or aluminum foil.
Steam the tamales for about 40 minutes, checking occasionally to ensure they are cooking properly.
After 40 minutes, check if the tamales are firm and cooked through; they should not be sticky to the touch.
Serve the tamales with crema and enjoy.
