They are often enjoyed as a snack or as part of a bento box, showcasing the Japanese appreciation for balance and simplicity in flavors.

Prepare a large bowl with 2-3 cups of ice and cold water for the ice bath.
In a medium pot, add 1 cup of water and 1 teaspoon of dashi powder, bring to a boil.
Add 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/2 cup sake, 1/2 cup mirin, and 1/4 cup sugar to the boiling dashi mixture, stir to dissolve sugar and boil for 2 minutes.
Remove the marinade from heat and let it cool completely.
Boil the eggs using an Instant Pot with 1 cup of water, pressure cook on high for 3 minutes for soft-boiled eggs, then do a quick release.
Transfer the eggs to the ice bath immediately after cooking.
Cool the eggs in the ice bath for around 20 minutes.
Peel the eggs and place them in a Ziploc bag.
Pour the cooled marinade over the peeled eggs in the Ziploc bag, seal tightly, and refrigerate for 8 to 24 hours.
