Bajra Soup

1 cup bajra (pearl millet)
4 cups water
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 inch ginger, grated
1 medium tomato, chopped
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp red chili powder
Salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Rinse the bajra under cold water and soak it in water for at least 2 hours.

In a pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Add chopped onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions are translucent.

Add the chopped tomato and cook until soft.

Stir in turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.

Drain the soaked bajra and add it to the pot. Stir to combine with the spices.

Pour in 4 cups of water and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes, or until the bajra is soft and cooked through.

Use a hand blender to puree the soup to your desired consistency (optional).

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
