Wash the broccoli and separate the florets from the stems, saving the stems for other recipes if desired.
Cut the florets into fairly equal sizes, halving the larger ones to ensure even cooking.
Peel 4-6 cloves of garlic by laying them on a cutting board, placing a knife over them, and giving a gentle tap to split the skins.
Roughly chop the peeled garlic cloves.
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat.
Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the heated skillet.
Add the chopped garlic to the skillet with a pinch of salt and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to brown it.
Add the broccoli florets to the skillet along with more salt and black pepper, and gently toss to coat them in the oil and garlic.
Add 1/4 cup of water to the pan and cover with a lid to steam the broccoli for 3-5 minutes, depending on desired tenderness.
Remove the lid after steaming, and let the broccoli cook for another 30-45 seconds to evaporate any remaining water before serving.
