Season the sweet potatoes with salt and black pepper.
Use hands to smear the oil, salt, and black pepper on all sides of the sweet potatoes.
Poke multiple holes into each sweet potato with a knife or fork to prevent them from exploding while baking.
Bake the sweet potatoes at 350°F for 1 hour and 30 minutes, flipping them halfway through the baking time.
While the sweet potatoes bake, melt butter in a pan over medium heat.
Add brown sugar and ground cinnamon to the melted butter and mix together.
Let the mixture simmer for about 30 seconds or until the sugar has melted, then set aside.
After baking, make a slit through each sweet potato and press them open using fingers.
Use a fork to fluff out the sweet potatoes.
Pour a spoonful of the butter sauce into each fluffed sweet potato and mix it in well with a fork.
Drizzle any remaining sauce over the sweet potatoes.
Optionally, sprinkle cut up pecans over the sweet potatoes before serving.
