Add 1.5 cups of sugar, heaping it so it overflows the top.
Mix all the dry ingredients together until well incorporated.
Melt 2 sticks (1 cup) of salted butter and add it to the mixture.
Add 1 cup of whole milk to the mixture, avoiding buttermilk due to its tanginess.
Crack 3 large eggs into the bowl and add 2 tablespoons of honey.
Mix everything together until smooth, ensuring there are no lumps.
Let the mixture rest for 3-4 minutes, then mix again before pouring into the pan.
Coat the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking pan with melted butter.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan, ensuring to cover the corners and edges.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 25-30 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
While the cornbread is baking, prepare the honey butter by melting equal parts butter and honey in the microwave.
Mix the melted butter and honey together until well incorporated.
