Traditionally, it was a way to use up leftovers, combining rice with whatever proteins and vegetables were available. Today, it remains a staple at gatherings and celebrations, showcasing the rich culinary heritage of the region.

Rinse 2 cups of rice and let it soak until ready to use.
Put a pan on medium heat and add 4 tablespoons of cooking oil.
Once the oil is hot, add 12 oz of sliced turkey kalbasa and brown on both sides.
Add 1 small diced white onion and 1 tablespoon of freshly chopped garlic.
(Optional) Add 3 or 4 dry chilies for spice.
Add 10 oz of peeled shrimp to the pan.
Season with 1 tablespoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of white pepper, 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of paprika, 1 tablespoon of cumin powder, and 1 tablespoon of oregano.
Add 2 bay leaves and 2 medium red or green peppers, cooking for a minute on medium heat.
Add 14 oz of freshly pureed or crushed tomatoes and cook for another minute.
Add 1 tablespoon of tomato paste and the rinsed rice, cooking for a minute to let the rice absorb the flavors.
Add 2 cups of water, ensuring the rice is fully covered.
Once the water comes to a boil, turn the heat down to low, cover with a lid, and let it cook for 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes, check the rice. If it's not cooked and the water has dried out, add 1/4 cup of water and let it cook for 5 more minutes with the lid on.
