Vegan Cuban Sandwich

Cultural Context

The Cuban sandwich, or Cubano, originated in Florida's Cuban immigrant communities, particularly in Tampa and Miami. Traditionally featuring layers of pork, ham, and cheese, the sandwich has evolved to embrace vegan alternatives, reflecting the growing plant-based movement. This vegan version captures the essence of the original while catering to modern dietary preferences, making it a popular choice among those seeking comfort food with a conscience.

Add in thinly sliced seitan and toss to coat completely in the marinade.

Grab your bread and spread some vegan butter on it.

6

Spread mustard on the bread.

Add the sandwiches to a cast-iron skillet and place a weight on top (a brick lined with aluminum foil was used).

Toast the sandwiches until they are nice and brown.
