Traditionally, the dish showcases the rich flavors of duck complemented by a savory bread stuffing. In modern times, it has gained popularity beyond Denmark, with variations appearing in many global kitchens, especially during holidays.

Start by mixing together 1/2 tablespoon each of onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt in a bowl.
Remove the duck from its wrapping, wash it, and rinse it off with salt.
Season the duck inside and out with the mixed seasonings, being careful not to add too much salt to avoid a salty broth.
Stuff the duck cavity with chopped celery and onion.
Prepare a roasting pan and transfer the duck into it, ensuring the top remains seasoned.
Add a couple of cups of water to the pan, trying not to pour it directly on top of the duck to keep it seasoned.
Cover the duck loosely with foil, ensuring it doesn't touch the duck, and preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Let the duck cook in the oven for about 1.5 hours, checking for doneness based on the size of the duck.
In a separate bowl, mix cornbread with the cooked vegetables from the duck broth.
If there isn't enough broth, add cream of chicken or any chicken broth to the mixture.
Add 3 eggs to the dressing mixture and mix well.
Season the dressing with sage or poultry seasoning to taste, mixing thoroughly.
Pour the dressing into a pan and place it in the oven along with the duck.
After about 1.5 hours, check the duck and dressing for doneness and texture, adjusting cooking time as necessary.
