Originating from Germany, the Pretzel Wreath is a festive variation of the classic pretzel, often enjoyed during holidays and celebrations. Traditionally, it symbolizes unity and togetherness, making it a popular centerpiece at gatherings. Today, this delightful bread is embraced globally, with variations incorporating local flavors and ingredients, yet it retains its charming shape and festive spirit.
all-purpose flour

Whole wheat flour adds fiber and nutrients.

Essential for the traditional pretzel texture.
coarse sea salt
Gives a crunchy topping.

Reduces saturated fat while adding flavor.
Mix water, sugar, molasses, and yeast in a bowl.
Add flour, eggs, oil, and salt to the mixture and mix well.
Knead the dough in a machine for about 10 minutes until soft and smooth.
Cut the dough into four equal pieces and shape them into logs.
Braid the logs and shape them into a circle, connecting the ends.
Cover the wreath and let it rise for about 1 hour.
Bring water to a slight boil and slowly add baking soda.
Brush the wreath with the baking soda solution and sprinkle with coarse salt.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes, covering with aluminum foil if it browns too quickly.
Let the wreath cool, then cut out the center.
Spread margarine in the center and fill with Obatzda cheese spread, radish, and chives.
Place the top back on and serve.
