Soak the plantains in water to help with peeling.
Cut the plantains into 3 cm thick pieces.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet until hot.
Fry the plantain pieces in the hot oil until golden, about 2 minutes.
Remove the fried plantains and place them in water.
Smash each piece using a tool or any other object, folding plastic over them to prevent sticking.
Return the smashed plantains to the hot oil and fry again until crunchy and golden.
Remove from oil and sprinkle with salt.
Serve with guacamole or other toppings.
