Whole wheat pasta adds fiber while regular pasta is more economical.

Heat 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil in a pot.

Add 1/4 cup of diced onions and sauté until they start to brown, about 1-2 minutes.

If the mixture looks dry, add more olive oil as needed.

Once the onions are browned, add the 1.5 cups of alphabet pasta.

In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup of tomato sauce with 1.25 cups of water, then add to the pot.

Season with salt and garlic salt to taste, and stir to combine.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer and cover halfway.

Set a timer for 20 minutes and let it cook, stirring occasionally.

After 20 minutes, check the consistency; if you prefer more liquid, turn off at 15 minutes instead.

Serve hot, optionally topped with avocado or sour cream.
