Open a can of pear halves and drain the juice, saving it for later.
Shave a little off the bottom of the pear halves to make them stable.
Add a spoonful of mayonnaise on top of the pear halves.
Use Monterey Jack cheese instead of cheddar, adding as much as desired.
For the fancy version, take a fresh Bartlett pear, wash it, and cut it in half to remove the core.
Spray an oven-safe dish with cooking spray and place the pear halves face down in the dish.
Bake the pears in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 30 minutes, checking for softness but not mushiness.
After 25 minutes, check the pears; they should be soft on top but not too mushy.
Once baked, turn the pears over to cool down before assembling the salad.
Instead of mayonnaise, add creme fraiche on top of the cooled pear halves.
Add double creamy cheese on top of the creme fraiche.
Sprinkle toasted walnuts for crunch and top with maraschino cherries for color.
