Whole grain bread offers more fiber and nutrients.

Turkey breast is leaner, while pork shoulder is more economical.

Slice the Cuban bread lengthwise.

Spread mustard on the inside of both halves.

Layer roast pork evenly on the bottom half.

Add slices of ham on top of the pork.

Place Swiss cheese over the ham.

Add pickles on top of the cheese.

Close the sandwich with the top half of the bread.

Spread butter on the outside of the sandwich.

Preheat a grill or sandwich press.

Grill the sandwich until the bread is golden and the cheese melts.

Press down with a weight if using a grill.

Remove from heat and slice diagonally.

Serve hot.
