Rouladen is a traditional German dish, originating from the 19th century, often served during family gatherings and festive occasions. Today, Rouladen is enjoyed not only in Germany but has also found a place in various international menus, with adaptations that reflect local tastes.

Chicken is leaner and pork is often less expensive.

Grape juice maintains sweetness without alcohol.
Use a meat tenderizer mallet to pound the thinly sliced beef on both sides.
Season both sides of the beef with salt and black pepper.
Spread mustard in the middle of the beef.
Place a pickle, onions, and a slab of bacon in the middle of the beef.
Roll the beef tightly and secure it with a toothpick.
Heat a skillet and add a couple of teaspoons of olive oil until shimmering.
Brown the rouladen on all sides in the hot skillet, waiting for them to release from the pan before flipping.
Deglaze the pan with beef broth, scraping up the browned bits from the bottom.
Bring the broth to a simmer, cover, and let it simmer for about an hour until the meat is tender.
After an hour, add cornstarch to thicken the gravy, mixing it in well.
Prepare the gnocchi by adding it to salted boiling water; when it rises to the top, it's done.
Remove the gnocchi, coat with butter, and serve with the rouladen and gravy.
Warm up red cabbage in the microwave from a jar and serve alongside.
