In a mixing bowl, add 2 cups of all-purpose flour.
Make a well in the center of the flour.
Add 1/2 cup of sugar (113 g) into the well.
Add 1/2 cup of butter or margarine (113 g) at room temperature into the well.
Add 1 teaspoon of baking powder and a pinch of salt to the mixture.
Cream the butter with the sugar, salt, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Incorporate the flour into the creamed mixture.
Add 1 egg to the mixture, or substitute with 3 tablespoons of liquid if not using egg.
Mix until a dough forms.
Reserve a small amount of dough for decoration.
Roll out the dough to fit a greased baking pan.
Spread strawberry jam over the rolled-out dough in the pan.
Use the reserved dough to create a lattice pattern on top of the jam.
Bake in the oven at 350°F for 35-40 minutes until golden brown.
Let cool before removing from the pan and slicing.
