Mix yeast and three teaspoons sugar in one cup warm water using a whisk.
Let the yeast mixture sit in a warm place until bubbling.
Beat the eggs until foamy, then add the eggs, remaining sugar, salt, and melted lard or Crisco to the yeast mixture.
Using a dough hook, gradually mix in flour until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
Knead the dough for three to five minutes until stiff and pliable.
Grease a large bowl, place the dough inside, and cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap.
Let rise in a warm place for about one hour.
Punch down the dough and divide it into two pieces for two loaves.
Shape each piece into a rectangle, roll to about 12 inches wide by 6 inches deep, and tuck in the ends.
Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes or until doubled in volume.
Preheat oven to 350º F.
Cut a shallow seam or slits down the middle of the top of the bread.
Brush the tops with egg wash.
Bake until golden brown, about 25 to 35 minutes.
Let cool on a wire rack.
