Your cold hardy banana plants will lose their leaves when the winter weather gets here...very soon. Cooking with banana leaves is a an old school but delicious way to get the most out of your home grown banana season. This video show you how to prepare banana leaves for cooking and keeping them for future us. Here are three methods to help you make the most of your banana leaves before they are lost for the season.Using banana leaves in cooking is an excellent use of them before the winter frost. While not everybody can get bananas to fruit in their zone, you can grow a banana tree almost anywhere during the warm months, so try to make make the most of them before the first frost get here. There is no amount of mulch protection that will save the leaves from freezing and turning brown. Many many cultures use banana leaves in cooking. Roast pork in banana leaves is an excellent dish in Hawaii and the Yucatan of Mexico where it is known as cochinita pibil. Southeast Asian countries use banana leaves in cooking for many many of their dishes. In Central America, roasted banana leaves are used in cooking for such classic dishes as tamales.
