Video Description

Cape Malay koesisters are fried dough balls full of deliciousness, boldly spiced with carefully selected spices. So I've devised my recipe to use two cups of flour which makes approximately 18 koesisters. These koesisters freeze very well in an airtight container or ziplock bag and can keep for up to 4 months in the freezer. You can even freeze left over sugar syrup ready to use next time you sugar your koesister. My spices include: ½ teaspoon fine cardamom, I buy the whole cardamoms and grind in a coffee grinder that I only use for spices 1 teaspoon ginger powder 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder ½ teaspoon mixed spice 2 teaspoons ground aniseed 1 teaspoon whole aniseed ½ teaspoon ground naartjie or satsuma peels, which I've dried out and grind in the coffee grinder 1 teaspoon yeast ¼ teaspoon salt 2 cups cake flour/plain flour/ all purpose flour (I use 250ml cups) ¼ cup sugar 1 small egg 1 cup milk & water mixture (half / half) 750ml - 1L cooking oil for deep frying. Follow the directions in the video and you won't go wrong. In next to no time you'll be a koesister expert and make a bigger batch to share with family and friends!
