I didn’t mention this in the video, but there are mainly two types of Uni (sea urchin) served at sushi restaurants in Japan. One is the kind I showed in this video—called Murasaki Uni in Japanese. The other is called Bafun Uni. If I can get my hands on some Bafun Uni, I’ll make another video about it! Uni is one of the pricier toppings in sushi, and for good reason. When I was a kid, Uni was always the most expensive sushi at conveyor belt sushi places. I remember asking my parents to let me try it on special occasions like my birthday. I didn’t love it back then, but now it’s one of my favorite toppings. You’ll often see it served toward the end of Omakase course. There are even restaurants in Japan that only serve Uni (not sushi restaurants). I’m planning to check one out soon!
