Video Description

When you live in South Texas and you have a craving for street tacos, you don't have to look very far. Food trucks and neighborhood taquerias serve up some of the best street tacos available. But now that I have freeze dried food on my shelves, I don't have to look any further than my pantry. This recipe for street tacos is delicious and authentic. These tacos are sure to satisfy any craving. Traditionally, these are served in soft corn tortillas, so you'll need to get some of those (or make some -- see my Puffy Tacos video). But the carne asada (roasted meat) is fantastic on nachos, tostadas, or in flour tortillas as well. Add lime powder to the jar. Fill the jar with near boiling water and cover. Allow to refresh for 20-30 mins or until beef is completely rehydrated. Heat a med/large skillet and add the contents of the jar. Bring to a boil over med high heat. Cook off the water, about 5 mins, stirring occasionally. When the water has mostly cooked off, add 2 Tbsp oil to the pan. Stir well to combine. Lower heat to medium and sauté for about 5 mins or until browned and fond develops on the bottom of the skillet. Loosen the fond with an additional Tbsp of water and remove from heat. Fill grilled/warmed corn tortillas with carne asada and top with fresh cilantro, fresh onion, and salsa verde.
