Mutton Malai Handi is a rich and creamy dish from Indian cuisine, often served during special occasions and celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg mutton, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 2 medium onions, finely sliced
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup cashew nuts, soaked and blended into a paste
  • 1/2 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 tbsp ghee or oil

Instructions

  1. 1Heat ghee or oil in a handi or heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat.
  2. 2Add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. 3Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, cooking for another 2 minutes.
  4. 4Add the mutton pieces and sauté until they are browned on all sides.
  5. 5Mix in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. 6Add the yogurt and cashew nut paste, mixing well to coat the mutton.
  7. 7Cover and cook on low heat for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the mutton is tender. Stir occasionally and add water if necessary to prevent sticking.

  9. 9Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.
  10. 10Serve hot with naan or rice.
