Mutton Malai Handi is a rich and creamy dish from Indian cuisine, often served during special occasions and celebrations.
Ingredients
- ●1 kg mutton, cut into pieces
- ●1 cup yogurt
- ●1/2 cup cream
- ●2 medium onions, finely sliced
- ●2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- ●2-3 green chilies, slit
- ●1/2 cup cashew nuts, soaked and blended into a paste
- ●1/2 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- ●1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- ●1 tsp red chili powder
- ●1 tsp garam masala
- ●1/2 tsp cumin powder
- ●Salt to taste
- ●4 tbsp ghee or oil
Instructions
- 1Heat ghee or oil in a handi or heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat.
- 2Add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
- 3Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, cooking for another 2 minutes.
- 4Add the mutton pieces and sauté until they are browned on all sides.
- 5Mix in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 6Add the yogurt and cashew nut paste, mixing well to coat the mutton.
- 7Cover and cook on low heat for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the mutton is tender. Stir occasionally and add water if necessary to prevent sticking.
- 8Once the mutton is tender, stir in the cream and garam masala. Cook for an additional 10 minutes.
- 9Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.
- 10Serve hot with naan or rice.
