Luckily most mistakes of eating the wrong foraged items have already been made, and there are plenty of modern tools available to identify what is edible and what is not. I used to forage with my grandparents growing up. We foraged wild berries, mushrooms and moss all the time. So getting back out into the woods and into fresh air is amazing and exciting. This time I ran into the American Beauty Berry (Callicarpa Americana), which I was unfamiliar with. However, some research told me it is indeed edible. Since we have this beautiful shrub growing in abundance, I figured, why not gather and try out a helly recipe. In this video I talk about the benefits of the berries and shrub as well as show you how simple it is to make a delicious and beautiful jelly.
